CALUNAH
What a gentle name for a club made of a multitude
of loyal, patriotic, and generous people
Whose purpose is to keep connected the
alumni, friends, and supporters of Diquini
So they can socialize and at the same time raise money
For the university that Diquini has become?
Why did it take me so long to become
Aware of your treasured existence?
I wish I had heard about you long long time ago.
The entire world, by now, would have known your name
And would have, without doubt, contributed
To making you a worldwide organization
Since the former students, friends, and employees of
Diquini are all over the world.
They would, with a generous heart,
help you achieve your goals,
Which I understand, is to make Diquini
A center of learning where the young minds of Haiti
Can be immersed in scientific research, in world history,
Culture and civilization, world languages, religious studies
Technology, mathematical reasoning, only to name these few.
All that is possible because I know a lot of people,
And they must be at least 4000, who are very proud to have been
Students of this institution that taught them
All the skills that have made them today,
Successful human beings making a comfortable living
In many foreign distant lands.
They will be very happy to help modernize Diquini.
They would be delighted to help make it
A center of attraction for intellectual people.
I have for a long time wanted to be part of a group
Whose purpose is to help modernize this beautiful
Campus that I had the privilege to attend.
Just like Haiti has changed the trajectory of the life of all Blacks living in the Americas,
Just like Rosa Parks has changed the trajectory of the life of Oprah Winfrey,
Diquini has changed the trajectory of the life of a multitude of people
Who, without the existence of this center of learning,
Would probably not be what they are today.
.
I will from this day forward, waste not a minute
To let the entire world know of your existence.
I will trumpet your name wherever, I believe, there
Are members like me who would be quite delighted
To discover your name.
I learned from a good source it was Pasteur Roberne Saint Louis
Who, very zealously, and with an open heart came with this idea.
It was very thoughtful of him because there is genius in this bold idea.
I also heard you are present at funerals.
You give flowers to the families of alumni and friends
Who depart from the Earth.
What a gentle gesture from a club of alumni and friends?
Such acts of kindness make you the club that
I, and many alumni like me, cannot wait to join.
I congratulate you for a job well done
And I cannot wait to send you my membership fee
Which, I understand, is only 100 dollars for the entire year,
So I can, in the briefest delay, be inducted into this
Club of generous and patriotic citizens.
I love the Adventist University so much that I have for a long time wanted
To be part of a group whose very objective
Is to help support it, modernize it, give it a state of the art library,
Help it rebuild its road, modernize its dortoirs
Revive its doux refuge, give it computer and science labs,
Which it desperately needs
To help it better shape the mind of the young Haitians
Who are the proud future of Haiti, our beloved and gentle land.
I will be so happy to join this group of former students
And employees who believe so much in the power of education
That they have decided to support Diquini in its
Restless effort to educate the children of Haiti,
This beloved nation that we are all very proud
To be citizens of.
I understand that Dr. Saturne is your new president.
I cannot wait to hear from him so I can send him my membership fee.
Thousands of alumni like me who feel the need to give back,
Are also impatiently waiting to receive from him a letter of introduction
To let them know his future plans.
I promise to support him in all his endeavors to help the university,
And so do thousands of alumni like me.
